The Michael Franti Mix Tape Print E-mail

Michael Franti and Spearhead's new release on Anti-Records, All Rebel Rockers, is the sound of an artist moving further towards the source. Few places hold as deep a musical sway as the bustling streets of Kingston Jamaica, and, as with the Spearhead’s previous two acclaimed albums Yell Fire and Everyone Deserves Music – that’s exactly where Franti and company headed to record their latest disc with legendary producers Sly & Robbie (Peter Tosh, Jimmy Cliff, Bob Dylan, Alicia Keys, No Doubt).

The end result further imbues Franti’s fiery protest music with seductive elements of dub and some irresistible hook-infused soul. Franti says he wanted to record an album which truly celebrated his love of reggae and dance music and that is precisely what he’s accomplished with All Rebel Rockers.

Franti has sold over a million albums as an independent artist and with Spearhead. He has toured the world over and produced some of the most innovative and socially charged songs of the last two decades. And though respected throughout the music world, and now in the film industry with his award winning documentary I Know I’m Not Alone which chronicled his journey into the war zones of Iraq, Palestine & Israel –Franti’s success has occurred primarily outside of, and in-spite of, mainstream media and radio.
