Composer/philanthropist Peter Buffett and international star Akon have teamed up to launch a new social action and resource website, IsThereSomethingICanDo.com. Akon added vocals and remixed Buffett's song "Anything," from his 2007 album Staring At The Sun.   The track is now available for free download at their new website IsThereSomethingICanDo.com

The website, designed by Halo Media, LLC, hopes to answer the question "Is there something I can do?" posed within the song and will offer practical ways to get involved in affecting positive change. It will also serve as a forum for users to learn and share information about their experiences with giving back.

Buffett wrote "Anything," after visiting post-war Liberia and Sierra Leone. Akon, an avid supporter of aid organizations benefiting his home of Senegal, viewed the video Buffett created after his trip and was immediately inspired to contribute.

The "Anything" remix is the first project in what will be an ongoing relationship for this unique pairing. Next up, Akon will begin work on the song "Can We Love" from Buffett's now album Imaginary Kingdom (out September 9th, BeSide Records) and together they are planning further artistic collaborations around this theme.

This week's episode of Cold Turkey features:

1) An introduction by Peter Buffett

2) "Anything," Peter Buffett featuring Akon

3) An exclusive interview with Peter Buffett  (background music: "Fire Dance" by Peter Buffett

The Michael Franti Mix Tape Print E-mail

Michael Franti and Spearhead's new release on Anti-Records, All Rebel Rockers, is the sound of an artist moving further towards the source. Few places hold as deep a musical sway as the bustling streets of Kingston Jamaica, and, as with the Spearhead’s previous two acclaimed albums Yell Fire and Everyone Deserves Music – that’s exactly where Franti and company headed to record their latest disc with legendary producers Sly & Robbie (Peter Tosh, Jimmy Cliff, Bob Dylan, Alicia Keys, No Doubt).

The end result further imbues Franti’s fiery protest music with seductive elements of dub and some irresistible hook-infused soul. Franti says he wanted to record an album which truly celebrated his love of reggae and dance music and that is precisely what he’s accomplished with All Rebel Rockers.

Franti has sold over a million albums as an independent artist and with Spearhead. He has toured the world over and produced some of the most innovative and socially charged songs of the last two decades. And though respected throughout the music world, and now in the film industry with his award winning documentary I Know I’m Not Alone which chronicled his journey into the war zones of Iraq, Palestine & Israel –Franti’s success has occurred primarily outside of, and in-spite of, mainstream media and radio.

1)      An introduction by Michal Franti

2)      Michael Franti’s All Rebel Rockers Mix Tape

        3)      A look at All Rebel Rockers
