Trey Anastasio CBS Sunday Morning Web Extras

CBS News released two new clips from Trey Anastasio’s recent interview on CBS Sunday Morning. Both of the web extras deal primarily Phish’s relationship with their fans, as well as the band’s break-up and their extensive repertoire.

Trey describes Phish fans and discusses a way in which he could easily screw with them.

Trey talks about how Phish’s 2004 breakup affected the band’s friends and fans.

He still needs to make good with his phans who came from all over the world to see the worst musical performance I have ever witnessed, The Coventry. While the weather wasn’t his fault, the pathetic performance he gave, was.
But we all make mistakes & I’m happy to see Trey with his shit together.
Bring on Merriweather & ATL!

these pro musicians could play 23 songs starting with any letter in the alphabet…... L Dave, get over it…. these guys are the best ever on their worst night…. i was at coventry, – parking my car 15 miles away and tromping through the mud….. that shit sucked…..however, who gives a phuck?!! you clearly haven’t come out for any more parties in the last few years if you think trey hasn’t made good yet…... You my boy, Red!!!! keep melting phaces everywhere you go!!!!! Thanks for introducing me to the best people and music around!!!!! I feel forever in debt to phish as a community and a musical entity….. for it is and has been the cliff notes and soundtrack of my life….

“Still needs to make good to his fans”? Are you kidding me? You ungrateful SOB! Every night they have taken the stage since 3/6/09 they have made good to their fans and then some. While I was there at Coventry and agree that it was one of the worst musical performances they had put together up until that point, I wouldn’t change a thing. Without that weekend, not sure we would be where we are today….happy and healthy. Phish doesn’t owe anything to any of their fans other than an honest effort into their shows these days. Perhaps if you weren’t so bitter about your past, you would understand this. And this is coming from someone who has seen the band for more than 20 years. Thankful for Trey, Mike, Page and Fish!

This guy… it’s honesty like this that makes me love Phish so much more. Back and better than ever… don’t believe me? Listen to night 3 2nd set BG and all of Dicks… and then decide.

they will never be what they were 97-2000. never. coventry was the biggest joke and waste of time – which was the greatest point of departure to listen to new stuff from bands that felt passionate about their work (on stage and off) and who can lay off the pills. kudos to those who continue to follow the carrot on the proverbial stick. primus sucks!

>>>they will never be what they were 97-2000. never. Nope, and they will never be what they were from 1983-1986. Never. Nor will they ever be what they were from 1987-1991. Never. And they’ll NEVER be what they were from 1991-1995…and for ME, those were the BEST Phish years ever. But the band changes over time and if you think 1997-2000 were the best years, my money is on that’s when you saw them a lot and toured a lot. Personally, 97-2000 were some of the most boring, mindless, vamping “cow-funk” shows, but that’s my personal preference. They are playing, having fun, and it’s different not than before…but it’s been changing non-stop. Just be happy they are still playing….or don’t be and don’t go see the anymore.

@Zonk – and i greatly appreciate different perspectives as well. you hit the nail on the head man: different strokes for different folks. and i certainly make no extraneous efforts to go see these guys anymore, mainly due to the extraneous effort it takes to even get a ticket. i agree – the “good ol days” are past, be it 93-95 or 97-2000, whatever your poison is. moving on is part of evolving and both fans and the band have done so. to each his/her own.

“We have more than 23 songs that start with ‘S’.” That’s quite an understatement! Trey, my friend, you have in fact played 97 songs with Phish that begin with ‘S’ (source: phish.net). You could have played more than four nights straight without straying from that letter. Love it!

Brian March 19, 2013, 13:35:22

Man I just like watching this guy play and philosophize about music. I have no ill will regarding the breakup or Coventry. Coventry sucked on so many levels and if I could I’d do it all over again.
Also an FYI – Trey is one of the few famous people I’ve ever met (on the beach in VA 1998) who was not a total bummer. Just a really nice, graceful dude who made three kids days. Glad to see him With it.
