Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir, Phil Lesh and Mickey Hart Acoustic Benefit from 1978

We asked for our readers’ opinions on favorite shows and side projects by the Grateful Dead from 1974-1983. Here’s one that we enjoy. On November 17, 1978 on the afternoon before the Grateful Dead’s evening show at the Uptown Theatre in Chicago, Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir, Phil Lesh and Mickey Hart performed an acoustic show as Bob Weir & Friends as part of a Hunger Week Benefit at Loyola College’s Rambler Room. The complete audio appears below.

Here’s the setlist:

Whinin’ Boy Blues
Tom Dooley
This Time Forever
Deep Elem Blues
KC Moan
Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door
Big Boy Pete
Jack A Roe
Dark Hollow
Oh Boy

I ate lunch in this room every day for 3 years. Can’t believe the Dead played there. I’ve always dug the show but Im probably biased
