Phish at The Greek Night Two

Rock band that jams? Or jam band that rocks?! I’m still divided, but after the second night of Phish at the Greek I’m gonna go with the former, or latter? If second set’s “Rock & Roll” opener or encore of “Good Times, Bad Times” (both choice and rocking covers) give any insight into the direction the band is heading, well, bring on the rock show. Even first set’s closer, “Stealing Time From the Faulty Plan” was unleashed in a prime coveted set closing spot. All of these hints—the subtle clues in the song selections and bands that Phish cover—must mean something?
Someone call the Double Rainbow guy and ask him “What does it mean?”
Don’t discount first set and the prominent dance party jams. Take “The Moma Dance” with it’s fluid incredible vibe. And yet another cover, The Talking Heads’ “Cities” which saw every body in the Greek busting a move—just like those in ancient Greece. These jams, moments when the band could lock in and let the music move them (instead of vice versa) only took speed after “Ghost” and after a slight hiccup starting “Mike’s Song.” I’m always good for a Mike’s>Simple (despite some creative switching of lyrics) and when “Weekapaug” finally came around a few songs later in the set we were all back matching the band that can move.

So, which did you think I meant? Rock or jam band? Phish covering “Good Times, Bad Times” is as close as I’ll ever get to hearing live Led Zeppelin (one of the mightiest rock bands ever). Maybe we’ll get another clue tonight at the jam rock show, or show rock jam? OR maybe we’ll get that Prep School Hippie?
