Wasabi Reunion at Brooklyn Bowl (A Gallery)

On December 9, Wasabi reunited at Brooklyn Bowl in memory of Wetlands founder, Larry Bloch who passed away last month. The loose collective, which had been inactive since 1994, featured a number of players central to the initial Wetlands scene after the club opened in 1989: Blues Traveler frontman John Popper, Spin Doctors bassist Mark White, Spin Doctors drummer Aaron Comess, Authority percussionist Rene Lopez and Spin Doctors guitarist Eric Schenkman. The musicians’ teacher/mentor the late Arnie Lawrence originally added saxophone to Wasabi and his son Erik Lawrence joined them for this show. The evening also featured introductions by Larry Bloch’s son Aaron, original Wetlands talent buyer Walter Durkacz and the club’s later owner (and current _Relix publisher), Peter Shapiro.
