Threadhead Party with George Porter, Anders Osborne, Billy Iuso & Eric Bolivar

The 8th Annual Threadhead Party took place at The Old Ironworks on Tuesday afternoon. Bands from the lineup included Flowtribe, G.A.B.E. & Irma Thomas.

G.A.B.E. is the acronym for George Porter, Anders Osborne, Billy Iuso & Eric Bolivar. The band played a 90 minute set that included Grateful Dead staples “Sugaree” and “Fraklin’s Tower.” Billy Iuso Kicked off The Meters “Love Slips Up On Ya” and shared the verses with George. A raging version of Neil Young’s “Down By The River” featured a blistering solo from Anders that truly showed how amazingly he channels Young’s vibe.

The final act of the night was Soul legend Irma Thomas who was joined onstage by Dr. John.

The Threadheads should be commended for keeping this tradition going. For only $75 one can enjoy an afternoon and early evening of great live music, eat all the crawfish and gumbo you can stuff yourself wiht as well as alll the beer, wine, soda and water one wants. And the money goes to help get local musicians recorded

It was the highlight of my Jazzfest, as usual. The Threadheads are the people I hang out with at Jazzfest every year and hang out with online at the official Jazzfest message board (at www.nojazzfest.com) the rest of the year.
