Double Umphrey’s in D.C.

Marc Shapiro contributed the text and images for this look at Umphrey’s McGee’s two night stand in the nation’s capital earlier this month.

Umphrey’s McGee played a rockin’ two-night run at Washington, D.C.‘s 9:30 Club on Sept. 2 and 3. The shows featured an emphasis on the band’s heavier rock songs and covers from The Police (Masoka Tango), Toto (Africa), Michael Jackson (Billie Jean) and Steely Dan (Reelin’ in the Years).

Songs like “Miss Tinkles Overture” gave Jake Cinninger a chance to stretch out.

great photos. damn ive wanted to hear them cover mosako tanga for a while. um is in my opinion the most evolving and flat out best touring band out there right now. def the most entertaining. if you havent seen them, catch a show and prepare to be amazed. they really are great!

Recent events auctally demonstrate that this law serves no useful purpose at all. It does not prevent a single abortion because the exception has become the norm it can always be shown to affect the woman’s mental health because a genuinely unwanted pregnancy is one of the most traumatic events a woman can experience, a real crisis. To call it a lifestyle choice deliberately minimises this effect. It is not a mere inconvenience, but rather like being invaded by an out-of-contol alien. Now there is another precedent set for RU486 to be excused. Precedents will always be found because the majority of people (judging by numerous surveys) do not want women to be convicted. Nor do most of the medical and legal profession. For the same reason they won’t allow doctors who perform abortions to be bullied and threatened by this law, which is out of step with community beliefs. I hope politians start to realise what a waste of time and money this case was. Maybe they can target the prevention of unwanted pregnancy by advertising correct use of contaception and the morning after pill.
