Tonight’s Love for Levon benefit has quite a stacked lineup. The event which will celebrate the life of The Band’s Levon Helm will take place at East Rutherford, NJ’s Izod Center with proceeds set to help save Helm’s barn and recording studio. The roster of performers includes: Roger Waters, Gregg Allman, My Morning Jacket, Bruce Hornsby, Mike Gordon, Warren Haynes, Grace Potter, Band co-founder Garth Hudson, Joe Walsh, John Mayer, Ray LaMontagne, Mavis Staples, Joe Walsh, Lucina Williams, Jorma Kaukonen, Robert Randolph, John Hiatt, Eric Church, Dierks Bentley and the Levon Helm Band. Don Was and Larry Campbell will serve as the evening’s musical directors. “Legendary surprise guests” are promised as well.

So what exactly will go down? It’s shaping up to be quite the collaborative evening, Jammy Awards-style.

Bob Dylan is playing in Manitoba on Friday so it’s possible but seems unlikely. T’would be cool though.

I’d be happy to see Robbie Roberston but my gut says that’s unlikely. I’m not sure he ever reconciled with Levon. It would be poignant though if he made an appearance.

Joe Walsh, Mike Gordon, Warren Haynes and Mavis Staples backed by the Levon band would make me smile

If My Morning Jacket backs Roger Waters on wish you were here I might pee my pants.

Will Elvis Costello appear?

I was there-totally awesome show. Borderline historic occasion. The only flat spots were Dierks Bentley and Eric Church. It was puzzling that most every guest got to do one song and these commersh country “crossover” lame-Os got two songs each. My Morning Jacket blew the lid off the place as did Joe Walsh John Hiatt , Warren and Gregg, Allen Toussaint, Grace Potter…too many highlights to name. Ray LaMontagne and Lucinda Williams were sublime.
