The Good Old Grateful Dead, 12/31/90! East Coasters had been fortunate enough to see Branford Marsalis sit in with the Grateful Dead that spring. Those of out out west finally had our chance on New Yaer’s Eve 1990. He was there from the end of the first set through the end of the night. Some people have claimed that the Dead occasionally coughed up a hairball on New Year’s Eve. This was one year that they didn’t…

Phish: The Millennium Set Words can’t even begin to describe this one. Even EPIC seems too small. Suffice it to say they started at 11:30 and wrapped thing sup nearly 8 hours later.

I only saw 1 New Years Eve show, and that was Phish at MSG in 1997 (going into 1998). The 3 day run was an awesome time with awesome music. I’m looking forward to next week, when I make the trip from Montreal Canada to San Francisco to catch the Furthur New Years run. Hopefully i will have some new experiences to write about….

Gov’t Mule w/ Derek Trucks Band & Special Guests: Audley Freed, Marc Ford, Bernie Worrell, Dave Schools, & too many others to remember right now, Roxy Theatre, Atlanta, 1998-99…. One of the best shows I’ve ever seen period, new years or otherwise. Highlights included War Pigs w/ free (band provided) champagne at midnight, and many other great covers including Spanish Moon, Cortez, The Hunter, and a 40+ minute Afro Blue…....And of course many awesome Mule originals as well!
