Watch: That Time Trey Anastasio and Dave Matthews Made it Onto ‘The Office’

Rob Slater on March 24, 2015

Today marks ten years since The Office premiered on NBC and entered our hearts for eternity. One of the great things about the show was its connection to the outside world, often referencing celebrities, pop culture and of course, music. The musical references really ramped up when Ed Helms, The Nard Dog, joined the show in 2007 when he officially joined as a show regular.

Helms has his own musical pedigree, playing in The Lonesome Trio and most recently curating the Bluegrass Situation stage at Bonnaroo. With him on board, the show was able to tie in the music world to Andy Bernard’s character. Among the favorites, the story that Trey Anastasio and Bernard filmed a milk ad together and then Broccoli Rob, played by old Daily Show partner Stephen Colbert, presumably tattooed a compliment Anastasio gave him on his “pipes” just to shove in Andy’s face.

Bernard was also a longtime Dave Matthews fan, much like Andy Dwyer from Parks and Recreation. During an episode in 2011, Bernard found himself skating alone in a roller rink, like most Dave Matthews fans would, and requested a “deep cut” to which he was presented with “Ants Marching.” At first expressing disappointment, Bernard broke out his best air-fiddle and jammed his little heart out. Replay both of those moments below.
