Watch: Stephen Colbert Hosts a Superjam on ‘Late Show’ Debut

Rob Slater on September 9, 2015

Stephen Colbert kicked off his reign as host of the Late Show last night with a typically hilarious episode that featured guests George Clooney and Jeb Bush, along with all of the antics that have come with Colbert throughout his days on Comedy Central. The highlight of the show came at the end when house band Jon Batiste & Stay Human dug into a cover of Sly & the Family Stone’s “Everyday People” with the help of a bunch of special guests. Joining the band throughout the performance would be the legendary Mavis Staples and Buddy Guy as well as Derek Trucks, Susan Tedeschi, Paul Janeway, Ben Folds, Brittany Howard, Aloe Blacc and more, combining for a superjam that Bonnaroo should really consider putting together in the future. Colbert himself also got in there, trading verses with Tedeschi and Janeway.

It doesn’t end here for Colbert, however, as he will welcome Kendrick Lamar tonight and in the coming weeks will bring Willie Nelson, The Dead Weather (who will perform for the first time five years) and a special collaboration between Run the Jewels and TV on the Radio.
