Watch: Paul Simon Holds Q&A on _Portlandia_

Rob Slater on March 3, 2015

Portlandia has become a mecca for musical cameos, as the likes of Eddie Vedder, Josh Homme, Jack White, James Mercer, Colin Meloy, Jeff Tweedy and others have all found a role in the Fred Armisen/Carrie Brownstein-led comedy. Now, Paul Simon gets his turn this week, playing himself, as he holds a Q&A about his autobiography at the Portland Star Theatre.

Dave and Kath know everything about Paul Simon, his entire discography and the like, and they’re out to prove that they are who every Paul Simon fan should be. Unfortunately for them, Dave’s stammering derails the attempt with his question that reads: “We had heard…I had heard a folk singer, and his vocalizations didn’t have the discerning quality, tonality…I think you and I seem like we’re the same type of musically trained judges of how people sing. Do you find your discerning ear to criticize, or at least assess, that type of vocalization or is that just us?”

Simon, “for the sake of expediency,” agrees.
