Watch: My Morning Jacket’s Full Red Rocks Show

Rob Slater on September 2, 2015

My Morning Jacket’s summer U.S. tour closer came at the perfect place to shut down a tour–Red Rocks in Morrison, CO. At the end of a long tour, it’d be understandable to phone in whatever ugly metal shed you may be standing in front of at the moment. With home, family and rest on the horizon, something about Red Rocks energized the band and sent them into a brief break with one of their finest shows of the year–a 28-song destruction of the famed Colorado venue complete with some material from the band’s stellar latest album The Waterfall along with a slew of older cuts.

As Jim James referred to the steep rock formation as somewhat of a “womb,” the frontman commanded the stage with his band that seems to pick up steam as the set goes on, with the final tally clocking in at just under three hours. MMJ would be joined by a special guest too, as Brandi Carlile traded verses with Jim James on the encore-opening “Wonderful (The Way I Feel).
