Watch Marcus Mumford Play ‘New Basement Tapes’ Tracks on ‘A Prairie Home Companion’

December 5, 2016

After recently hosting Trey Anastasio, Chris Thile’s A Prairie Home Companion welcomed Marcus Mumford to play a few tunes with the band, including his New Basement Tapes contributions “Kansas City” and “When I Get My Hands on You,” performed with Thile and the house band.

Speaking to Relix about the latter tune, Mumford said he relished the opportunity to sing it. “I didn’t have to have my hands on a guitar; I enjoyed just singing,” he said. “I’ve never really sung a pure love song as well. It’s interesting, looking at that box of lyrics that [Dylan] gave us. If he didn’t release those lyrics, it’s just unbelievable. His tossed cuts are better than anyone else’s prime cuts!”
