Watch: Jimmy Fallon and His Broken Finger Joined U2 at Madison Square Garden

Jimmy Fallon has had a tough go of it as of late. He fell down and nearly ripped his ring finger off of his body, had to cancel a couple weeks of his Tonight Show gig and now rocks a nearly full cast on national television. Redemption stories are always sweet, as they say, and Jimmy got his last night at Madison Square Garden when he joined U2 on stage to take lead vocals from Bono on “Desire.”

If you recall, Fallon and The Roots did that very song on his show when U2 was unable to appear due to Bono’s injury. And they did it some incredible justice, much like Fallon did last night. The host joked when he got on stage that he’s a fan of “Irish people who fall down and break things,” calling Bono an “inspiration.” He also saluted The Edge for his recent stage fall. Fallon then burst into “Desire” with the vigor of a guy who probably visited the free VIP bar a couple of times, even donning Bono’s iconic sunglasses towards the end of the song. “It’s hard doing Bono,” he said after ripping a brief harmonica solo all while the U2 frontman filmed him with an iPhone.

The fun didn’t stop there, however, as Fallon introduced his house band, The Roots, who came on out for “Angel of Harlem,” a tune that namechecks several of the city’s boroughs. Watch it all unfold below.
