Watch Highlights from Phish’s Tour Opener Including Their New Lighting Rig

Phish’s new lighting rig is officially alive and it has a fucking mind of its own, too.

Last night’s summer kickoff saw the band dustoff just about every bustout possible and then some, with “Dear Prudence” appearing for the first time since its debut in 1994. “Round Room,” Velvet Underground’s “I Found A Reason,” “Daniel Saw the Stone” and a bunch others stopped collecting dust on the shelf to come out to play in St. Paul last night. But the real MVP last night was Chris Kuroda and his new toys, which turned a Phish show into even more of an immersive, intimate experience.

Now, there’s no telling what’ll happen when the band retreats to outdoor venues, but the arena shows seem to be taking on a life of their own with a new light rig that boxes the stage in screens and allows Kuroda to move the rig, as it did prior to the “Mike’s Song” second set opener.

Watch it in action below and marvel at the new dynamic thrown at an already dynamic approach.
