Watch Grace Potter and Bob Weir Play Emotional “Friend of the Devil” at the Dear Jerry Concert

A slew of musicians came together last year to honor the music of Jerry Garcia for an all-star blowout dubbed “Dear Jerry” and now, that concert will be immortalized as a CD and Blu-Ray release.

As a preview, the filmmakers have put out a pair of videos centered around Grace Potter’s “Friend of the Devil” collaboration with Bob Weir from that night. In a behind the scenes video posted to the Jerry Garcia Facebook page, Don Was (who served as musical director that night) and Potter both talk about the tune.

“It’s the first song I ever heard by the Grateful Dead,” Potter noted. “It just draws me in how a song can be so transient and change so much from one performance to another.” For this rendition, Potter and Weir opted to play a slow version of the tune, with Potter noting that “the skeletal body of the song will never change and the way that it makes you feel will never change.
