Watch: Foo Fighters Celebrate _Sonic Highways_ at Cubby Bear

Rob Slater on October 20, 2014

After a long week on Letterman, Foo Fighters traveled west to Chicago for an intimate show at the Cubby Bear on Friday night that was streamed live on Facebook following the premiere of their new HBO series, Sonic Highways. Let’s just say, this show may just fall into the category of most badass Foo Fighters shows.

Performances of note include guest spots from Cheap Trick’s Rick Neilsen on his own “Stiff Competition” featuring Taylor Hawkins on vocals (much like they did on Letterman) as well as the live debut of “Something From Nothing” with Neilsen. The guitarist also performed the tune with the band “that night” (it was recorded earlier, obviously) on Letterman and also made the studio cut available to stream.

The significance of the venue would be evident to those who watched the premiere of Sonic Highways as Dave Grohl recounted his first concert with his cousin Tracy at the intimate Chicago venue located just across the street from Wrigley Field. Grohl said he went to see Naked Raygun, fronted by Jeff Pezzati. To bring things full circle, Pezzati (who is also featured in the premiere episode) joined the band at the Cubby Bear for a Naked Raygun original, “Surf Combat.”
