Watch Brendan Bayliss Throw Out the First Pitch at Wrigley Field

September 27, 2013

The Chicago Cubs are 66-93. They are 28 games out of first place. Their season is over, and watching them at this point is self-punishment. However, on Tuesday night, something watchable emerged from the Friendly Confines of Wrigley Field. Umphrey’s McGee’s Brendan Bayliss took the mound to throw out the ceremonial first pitch before the Cubs (Brendan’s childhood team) took on the Pittsburgh Pirates (UM bassist Ryan Stasik’s team). The Pirates are in the playoffs, they clinched the other night, and life is good in Pittsburgh when the Steelers aren’t playing. Nonetheless, Bayliss took to the mound and one-hopped the ball to home plate. A brilliant effort, and certainly one of the better pitches fans at Wrigley have seen recently. The Pirates defeated the Cubs, 8-2.

Umphrey’s McGee and Wrigley Field have a nice history, as Chicago’s finest not only sang the National Anthem before a game, but also sang the 7th inning stretch, an important honor in Chicago. Check out both videos below, as well as Brendan’s pitch above.
