As Phish prepares to take the stage on The Tonight Show on July 14 in support of their new album Fuego, we sit and wonder what type of interaction, if any, there will be between Phish and Fallon’s house band, The Roots. As it so happens, the legendary Philadelphia crew and the legendary Vermont outfit have collaborated in various instances in the past. Most recently, The Roots backed Trey Anastasio at a HeadCount benefit show at the Capitol Theatre in 2012 when the guitarist showed up to perform on a bill that included Bob Weir, Grace Potter and more.

One of the highlights from the collaboration included a version of “First Tube” with The Roots’ drummers Questlove and Frank Knuckles backing alongside bassist Mark Kelley. The full band then helped Anastasio and special guest Grace Potter through “Pigtail,” the oft-played TAB tune.

Watch replays of “First Tube” and “Pigtail” with Grace Potter below.
