Unlike most artists, Ryan Adams is very aware of what you’re doing in the audience during his performance. Yes, you, person on your cell phone the entire time. And you too, guy yelling for “Free Bird.” And, as it appears, the guy holding a batch of balloons (what is a group of balloons called, anyway?) at this weekend’s Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival.

Towards the end of his headlining set on Friday, Adams took the time to serenade the gentleman who was enjoying his balloons with a little number entitled “Three Fucking Balloons.” Of course, it was all improvised on the spot, with the band eventually joining in after a few verses, but the tune tells a harrowing tale of Adams’ difficulty with numbers as he realizes that the man in the crowd is actually holding four balloons, not three.
