Video Premiere: The Railsplitters “Lessons I’ve Learned”

December 13, 2016

Colorado quintet The Railsplitters will next perform on December 30 at the Boulder Theater, opening for Yonder Mountain String Band. The two groups will continue to share the stage in early 2017, with a number of bills confirmed for January and February. Beyond that, The Railsplitters will bring their “unconventional bluegrass” on the road for a series of headlining dates as well. The band features vocalist/guitar player Lauren Stovall, principal songwriter and banjo player Dusty Rider, Peter Sharpe on mandolin, Leslie Ziegler  on upright bass and fiddle player Joe D’Esposito.

Today we premiere The Railsplitters’ official video for “Lessons I’ve Learned.” Stovall tells Relix, “I recorded the melody on my iPhone about a year before I wrote the song, not knowing if it would ever turn into anything. As I was flipping through the old recordings one snowy night, I realized that I had the perfect story to go along with the melody. The lyrics were inspired by one Miss. Lena Dunham whom had just released her memoir, Not That Kind of Girl: A Young Woman Tells You What She’s “Learned”.  The band heard it just after it was finished and 3 hours later performed it in Steamboat Springs, CO. It was a hit.” The band’s upcoming tour dates appear below the video.
