Video: Megafaun Covers the Grateful Dead with John Darnielle and Justin Vernon

by Rob Slater on May 02, 2014

The Mountain Goats' John Darnielle dropped in on Megafaun on Wednesday night in Durham, NC to perform a cover of the Grateful Dead's "Friend of the Devil." The band credited the Dead for changing everyone on stage with their music.

While Bon Iver's Justin Vernon sat in during both shows in Durham, on night two he belted out a cover of Johnny Cash's "Unchained" and also contributed guitar to "Friend of the Devil." Vernon along with all of Megafaun is a former member of Desmond and both are currently contributing to The National's Grateful Dead tribute album.

Megafaun will perform tonight in Brooklyn at Baby's All Right with another slate of special guests scheduled to appear. Watch the replay of "Friend of the Devil" and "Unchained" from the other night.
