Video: Aberdeen, WA Reluctantly Celebrates Kurt Cobain Day

Abderdeen, WA celebrated Kurt Cobain Day on February 20 to celebrate the 47th birthday of the late Nirvana frontman. Festivities throughout the day included a live concert from a three-piece band playing, you guessed it, Nirvana covers, as well as the unveiling of a statue in honor of Cobain. Putting aside how creepy that single tear is rolling down Cobain’s face, the statue serves as a nice homage to the fallen idol.

Local Seattle news station King 5 did the opposite of a nice tribute when summing up the day’s events. Anchor Dennis Bounds opted for describing Cobain as “the well known heroin addict who shot himself” and the report included a meandering interview with a fan and barely touched on Cobain’s contributions to the music world.
