As far as funky Prince tributes are concerned, this may take the cake as Umphrey’s McGee unleashed fury onto the fortunate souls at First Avenue in Minneapolis, MN last night, where a massive fan-made memorial to the late musical genius sits.
Just feet from hundreds of flowers and tributes from locals, Umphrey’s hit the stage where Prince filmed scenes for his Purple Rain film and kicked off their three-night run with a debut cover of Prince’s “Controversy” that hopefully made The Purple One proud wherever he happened to be in the universe last night.
