Throwback Thursday: Bob Weir Jams with My Morning Jacket

August 27, 2015

My Morning Jacket’s 2014 edition of their One Big Holiday destination event in Mexico was one for the books as the music scheduling gods smiled down on us, placing Furthur’s Paradise Waits event on the same week as Jacket was slated to hold One Big Holiday. Thankfully, Bob Weir stayed in town (because it’s Mexico, why would you leave?) to jam with the Louisville rockers during both of their headlining shows, sitting in on some Grateful Dead material and otherwise.

As we turn the clocks way back to January 2014, watch below as Weir contributes to some standout versions of Dylan’s “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door,” “I Know You Rider” and the Beatles’ “Dear Prudence,” splitting vocal duty with Jim James and sparring on guitar with Carl Broemel, creating a unique collaboration that was a spillover from the Americanarama Tour.

The members of My Morning Jacket commented on the experience of playing with Weir during the Americanarama Tour, with Jim James saying, “He was so open to talking, the kind of things we were hoping Dylan would be. Having him there was like this great gift.” Weir also added, “I had a lot of fun playing with those guys. They’re a very, very good band.”
