The Guy Who Poisoned Toomer’s Corner in Auburn Grew a Bob Weir Mustache

October 25, 2016

You may remember the name Harvey Updyke, the crazed University of Alabama football fan who dumped a lethal dose of Spike 80DF into Toomer’s Corner, killing one of the massive oaks that served as celebration points following Auburn football victories.

Updyke went a little crazy in 2010 when Alabama blew a 24-0 lead to lose 28-27 to their most hated rival, Auburn, in the Iron Bowl that year. In a blackout rage from the loss, he poisoned the trees and foolishly called into Paul Finebaum’s radio show to confess the crime. He owes Auburn University about $800,000 and has paid less than half of a percent of that thus far, so it’s safe to say he’ll be losing for the rest of his life regardless of any future football outcome.

As pointed out on Twitter, it seems as if ol’ Harvey has spent his time growing out a mustache that looks awfully familiar. Updyke recently finished serving a six month jail sentence and is now on supervised probation while he awaits another hearing. And yes, his mustache has been pointed out.

A couple of fans definitely caught onto the joke.
