On April 22 Roots of Creation will release Livin Free, an 18 track studio record via their own Bombshelter Records (it is now available for pre-order at PledgeMusic). A 3-disc deluxe edition will offer both dub/remix and acoustic versions of the material. Livin Free features guest performances by Melvin Seals, Marshall “Ras MG” Goodman (Sublime, Long Beach Dub Allstars), the Rubblebucket horn section, Billy Kottage (Reel Big Fish), Bill Carbone (Zach Deputy, Max Creek), Grammy-nominated Pato Banton (Sting, UB40), and Mighty Mystic. Today we premiere a version of “Struggle” with Ras MG and Melvin Seals.

The band tells Relix, “The process of recording this version was pretty epic. Tracks were recorded in Long Beach, CA (Ras MG), San Francisco, CA (Melvin Seals), Brooklyn, NY (keyboards) and in New Hampshire at a pro studio (Bass, Vocals, Guitar) and overdubs (sax, guitar) done at home. A true puzzle and a testament of what you can accomplish with a major team of pro musicians and technology. for Ras MG and Melvin to come was an honor, and sealed the deal as this being one of our best songs to date. Ras MG has that certain feel and sound that just defines the genre. As for Melvin… Where are you gonna find tastier licks? Melvin just added the absolute perfect flavor to this track to really make it stand out.” Seals adds, “I really enjoyed playing on the tune ‘Struggle.’ The band was excellent and the style of the song along with the lyrics were really strong. I felt Brett had an excellent voice as well.”
