July 29, 2015

Anton Fig, longtime member of David Letterman’s house band and in-demand session drummer, is set to release Figments, his debut recording under his own name. Originally issued as a limited-edition pressing in 2002, Fig recorded most of the album in his home studio. Guest musicians include: Brian Wilson, Blondie Chaplin, the late Richie Havens, Ivan Neville, Ace Frehley, Donald “Duck” Dunn, Sebastian Bach, Al Kooper, Oz Noy, Tony Garnier, Chris Botti, Randy Brecker and many others including Fig’s fellow Letterman bandmates Paul Shaffer, Felicia Collins, Will Lee and Sid McGinniss. Today we premiere, “Hand on my Shoulder” featuring Brian Wilson and Blondie Chaplin. Fig tells Relix,I sent the music to Blondie who put the words on top. I really heard Brian Wilson in the chords of this song, having grown up on Pet Sounds and it being one of my all-time favorite albums, and always dreamed of him singing on this. Blondie sang ‘Sail on Sailor’ when he was with the Beach Boys, so both of them on the same track seemed destined. Through a series of circumstances, [mostly due to David Leaf and Melinda Wilson], I found myself doing vocal overdubs with Brian in California. He was very quick and brilliant and finished his parts in 2 hours.”
