Song Premiere: A Valley Son “In the Low Light of the Late Afternoon”

January 9, 2017

Although current based in New York City, three members of A Valley Son are from the south and the fourth member is a Yonkers-born gospel drummer turned bassist. The quartet, which been together for just over a year, delivers a high energy soul-infused brand roots rock that is reflected on their debut EP Sunset Park, which will be followed up by a full-length later in 2017.

Today we premiere “”In the Low Light of the Late Afternoon” from Sunset Park. Vocalist and rhythm guitar player Trey Powell  tells Relix, “Over the past few years I’ve lost a few childhood friends to various causes; suicide, overdose, etc. When I was thinking about them and the times we had I kept finding it hard to reconcile the memories of reckless, adolescent abandon with the despair most of them must have felt towards the end. I remember thinking about one party in particular that I have vivid (and hazy) memories of and pulled out vignettes of the night as I remember them. Most of the people and events are real, some amalgamations, which I guess is true of all people and events in a way. In short, ‘Low Light…’ is an attempt to reconcile the haze of youth with the harsh reality of adulthood and how both phases of life interconnect and depart from one another, in both reality and perception.”

A Valley Son will next appear tomorrow, Tuesday, January 12 at Rockwood Music Hall, with their confirmed slate of upcoming dates, listed below the stream.
