Cameron Crowe and Showtime’s Roadies premiered recently and the show, that profiles life on the road of a fictional band and its roadies, has released a real documentary of roadies featuring Pearl Jam’s road crew as well as interviews with musicians like Jackson Browne, My Morning Jacket’s Jim James, Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Chad Smith, Foo Fighters’ Chris Shiflett and more.

Among the early highlights include the fact that Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith used to be Huey Lewis’ “pant stuffer,” as he puts it. Smith also has some funny stories about his life on the road not only as a roadie but as a band member as well. Jackson Browne also dishes on first meeting his manager, who saved him while puking in a bathroom after a night of drinking. Shiflett is of course well-versed in the world of rock and roll as well.

All in all, the 35-minute documentary is a fascinating inside look into the life of a roadie, which is far less glamorous than one might assume.
