There are those moments in life where you stumble on something so wonderful, and today is one of those days. Yes, that is a photo of Prince in middle school in his basketball uniform. You see, Prince was indeed on the team (as Deadspin uncovered) before he was singing about whatever Darling Nikki was doing in the hotel lobby.

Here’s a few quotes from Prince’s basketball coach, Richard Robinson, who says The Purple One had a sick handle and could knock down a jumper with the best of them. He was the “sixth or seventh man,” and routinely expressed his unhappiness about not being a starter. Thus, the beginnings of PRINCE.
