Podcasts: John Mayer and Chick Corea Talk New Trio Album, Matt Berninger Joins Comedy Bang! Bang!

A couple of interesting musical notes for you podcast-heads out there. The first comes in the form of John Mayer and Chick Corea taking some time from recording the newly-reformed John Mayer Trio’s next album at New York’s Electric Lady Studios. Mayer and Corea (who joined the Trio on Late Night With Seth Meyers) talk about the progress of the project, geek out on recording with virtuoso’s Pino Palladino and Steve Jordan, talk musical styles, improvisation and everything else the music nerd in us wants to hear. It is truly a fascinating listen. While you’re at it, go ahead and subscribe to all of Corea’s podcasts, you won’t regret it.

While nothing too official has been revealed from the forthcoming JM3 record, Mayer did take to his Soundcloud to post a brief preview of a tune entitled “Little Sur.”

The National’s Matt Berninger also stopped by Scott Aukerman’s Comedy Bang Bang podcast to discuss all-things-National including the band’s upcoming documentary (directed by Berninger’s brother) Mistaken For Strangers. Also included in the episode is Old 97’s Rhett Miller, who performs a few songs from the group’s latest effort Most Messed Up. The highlight, however, is the two riffing along with Aukerman and James Adomian throughout. This will surely brighten up your Tuesday morning.
