Pearl Jam Dedicate “Love Boat Captain” to Victims of Paris Attacks

November 17, 2015

Pearl Jam has a knack for paying proper and emotional tribute when necessary, and they had another opportunity to do so during their show in Sao Paulo, Brazil over the weekend following the tragic attacks in Paris. The band opted for “Love Boat Captain,” a tune from 2002’s Riot Act written about the nine people who died at their show at Roskilde Festival in 2000.

Eddie Vedder altered the line “lost nine friends we’ll never know, two years ago today” to “lost 90 friends we’ll never know, oh, again today” to reflect the events in Paris. Drummer Matt Cameron also decorated the Eiffel Tower onto his kick drumhead for the remainder of the tour.
