Mardi Gras was in full swing in New York City on Tuesday night as several groups performed throughout the city. At Blue Note Jazz Club, Kermit Ruffins & The BBQ Swingers kicked off a week long run with their first show at the famed jazz club with legendary New Orleans drummer Shannon Powell manning the kit. Uptown at B.B. King’s, George Clinton & P Funk celebrated their third annual “Funky Fat Tuesday” party that featured a sit in from Brandon Niederauer on “Maggot Brain.” Meanwhile at Brooklyn Bowl, Henry Butler and Steven Bernsteins Hot 9 closed the night with special guests Chris Barron, Catherine Russell and Amy Helm.
