Minnesota Vikings Open New Stadium with Halftime Show Tribute to Prince

While Metallica has already played a concert there, Minnesota’s brand new U.S. Bank Stadium got its introduction to NFL football last night as the hometown Vikings opened up their new stadium with a win against rival Green Bay Packers. 

The Vikings held off their rival 17-14, despite losing running back Adrian Peterson to a torn meniscus, but the highlight may have come at halftime when the Minnesota Orchestra along with the Steeles paid tribute to the late local icon, Prince, with a stirring rendition of “Purple Rain” as the stadium was drenched in purple light. 

While that was the main, notable tribute to Prince, the Packers scored the first touchdown on a Aaron Rodgers pass to Jordy Nelson. Of course, Prince’s full name was Prince Rogers Nelson. Weird!
