Listen: Ryan Adams Plays New Songs, Unreleased Material on _NPR_

Rob Slater on September 9, 2014

The return of Ryan Adams was finally complete today as the singer-songwriter officially released his self-titled album, marking his first since 2011’s Ashes & Fire. To celebrate, the guitarist along with his band The Shining are making the rounds, most recently on NPR‘s World Cafe session.

Along with performing album cuts like “Gimme Something Good,” “Stay With Me” and “Shadows,” Adams also digs into The Cardinals’ “Peaceful Valley” as well as the premiere of “The Door,” an unreleased track slated to appear on his “black hole album.” The hour-long piece also includes an interview with the frontman on a variety of topics including his inner-ear problem, the scrapped album with Glyn Johns and, of course, his pinball obsession.

Adams and his band will perform on Late Show with David Letterman on September 11 and will hit the road a few days later for six shows in the United Kingdom and one in Amsterdam. Adams’ U.S. tour begins October 1 in Santa Barbara, CA.
