Listen: Neil Young Finally Visits Howard Stern

Rob Slater on October 14, 2014

Neil Young finally visited Howard Stern for an interview years in the making. Over the course of the talk, Young and the host covered a wide variety of topics including why he thinks Buffalo Springfield’s music didn’t translate as well to the record, bad reviews, growing up, his new PONO Music and of course–Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young.

One of the most fascinating aspects of the period talking about David Crosby and reuniting with CSNY is that Young is reluctant to even mention the guitarist by name. When Stern asks if it would break his spirit to tour with CSNY again, Young replies, “It would never happen, so it’s nothing to worry about.” When pressed further, Young says, “Why get together to celebrate how great we were?”

When pressed further, Neil says, “When you play music, you have to come from a certain place and everything has to be clear. I don’t want to disturb that. The love has to be there.” He then takes aim at Woodstock, saying that he “didn’t like the fucking cameras.” He also uses “peeps,” which is pretty great.
