Here’s How the Casts of ‘The Color Purple’ and ‘Hamilton’ Honored Prince Last Night
Prince was also honored on Broadway last night as two of the finest productions paid homage to the Purple One after their respective performances.
American Idol finalist-turned-Broadway star Jennifer Hudson led the cast of The Color Purple on a stirring and emotional rendition of “Purple Rain” after recounting a story about meeting Prince shortly before his death. Hudson recalled her “good friend” calling her to bring her cast members along to meet Prince while he was in town working on his memoir. “He said, his music will live on and he will live on through his music, so we want to keep him alive today.”
Meanwhile, Lin-Manuel Miranda and the cast of Hamilton traded in their customary post-show bows for a dance party set to “Let’s Go Crazy” after the production’s mastermind shared a brief rap on Prince’s life and music. Watch both clips below.
