I really dig your magazine overhaul! The new editor sure did shake up the chicks around NW PA on that Chicks> / Jamband deal (personally I found some humor in it myself).
Keep up your good work on both the mag and your great site! |

Today, I mailed a subscription card in. I LOVE the new look, the more professional approach, and the emphasis on good writing.
Looking forward to reading Relix for many years to come!

I was just out picking up some chocolate for my boyfriendApril 11, 2001 |

I was just out picking up some chocolate for my boyfriend (I promised him if he helped me move the computer, the Easter Bunny would visit us this weekend) and while I was out, I grabbed the latest Relix (which I read as
often as I can). I was doing the typical "back to front" perusal and just read your article about how women "hardly exist" in the jamband scene. I'll admit, there is a bit of lopsided gender situation in the scene, but you have to keep your eye on the big picture. You were over-generalizing in your article, so I will take the same liberty now. The male/female energy
of the scene is in fairly good balance, even if there is an imbalance in actual genitalia.
The guys who make up the scene are the coolest, most down-to-earth, peace-lovin', groove-findin', self-realized bunch I've ever encountered (this is the generalizing I was talking about). You see, women usually
spend time around other women because of the non-threatening, let-your-hair-down kind of atmosphere we provide for each other. When we want men, we go to biker bars, hardware stores, Hooters or a hockey game. In the jamband scene, the guys are kinda like girls, which might explain why there aren't a lot of women there.
Please don't think I am complaining. My guy and I are both longtime fans of the scene (both before we met and now as a unit). I have always felt comfortable around guys (I have four brothers), and always loved hangin' with the boys on tour/at the show/in the van, etc.
Over the years, I have brought a lot of girl friends to see bands and some of them have become fans in their own right. But despite the lack of actual female bodies, the
balanced "vibe" the guys and girls of the scene provide, is why I'll always
come back.
And don't worry...there are a lot of us "girl fans" out there, and we'll keep coming to the shows and, sooner or later, the coolest of our sisters will catch on and know where to find the coolest of our brothers, the coolest tunes and the best times!!! Keep your eyes peeled! |

I like the new look. I'm 46 and I like the old, new and in-between. Give me what I call "timeless" music and artists that care about their craft--not egos and money. You know, the "all for the greedy and nothin' for the weedy."
I've followed the Dead scene since '72. I'm burnt and just can't get wrapped up in one niche. I like some of the new stuff I've checked out. Just don't forget about us "boomers." There is no other mag out there for us. Only Relix. I'm flexible and I know my stuff so I hope you keep it various and timeless. |
