Dear Relix,
I am in Oak Park, IL, and it seems that the jam scene is growing very
quickly, with everyone in my school sporting phish and grateful dead shirts.
Coupled with the m & ms hippie advertising campaign and 80,000 showing up
for Bonaroo, and it seems as if the jam scene is becoming much more popular
on a national level. First of all, is this true, and second of all, what
does that mean for the scene? Thanks for your magazine, keep up the good
work! |

I've heard that one of my favorite artists Marc Ford is joining the Ben Harper's band. After a really great solo CD, with Warren Haynes, Alan Woody, and Ben Harper guesting on it then some great shows in Southern California with the Sinners. Marc & the Sinners were absolutely great to see in concert, especially due to Marc's song writing. Well now we're going to miss the small venues with Marc & his band, but it's so good to hear that he's joining a really good artist like Ben Harper. Let's hope they get some jammin' going soon. No doubt it could be something special to see those two guys jammin'.
Anyway, you may already know all that but I wanted to suggest a mention in Relix. I'm a subscriber to the magazine and I love it. You guys do a great job & we jamband fans appreciate it so much! Thanks,

Flute Girl 07/28/03 |

The article on Flute Girl still gets my goat. I have stood next to Flute Girl before, who usually seems to get into the front row. Do you know how hard it is to get into the front row? And then some girl with a flute comes up and starts blowing as hard as she can to be heard over the music! I was polite enough not to say anything but it did drive me nuts. Hey look, if I can't bring my drums in then the flute should be locked in the trunk as well. |

I'd really like to thank you for your July issue of Relix. It seemed to me like every page in that magazine was quality. Starting out with the top bassists in the scene talking about the "Deepest End" tour and then into probably the best FanFare ever written in your magazine. The Deadicated section was also awesome with the "Ticket Dollars Support Pro-War Rallies." Clear Channel owns just about everything, which is very wrong, and it was nice to point out to the readers what and who their money is going to. The interview with Alex Grey was very different than most of your interviews, which is good, and it was very near seeing some of his art and reading what he has to say about it. The Photo Feature was great, and seemed to capture the esence of what New Orleans is like...still wondering why LL Cool J was in Relix though... The Laminated was again the best one yet, and really funny too and it was so sweet hearing from Warren Haynes on what equipment he likes to use. Of course, the feature story on the Dead, and the Bluegrass scene were both great, but it was those other small sections that made the last magazine, like the Interview, Scene and Heard, Deadicated, and Tools of the Trade. Keep up the good work Relix! (Just keep LL Cool J out of your magazine please...)
