Sonya Kitchell is currently in the midst of a tour with The Slip in support of her new studio album, This Storm. But this fall the 19-year-old will shift her focus from music to photography, displaying her work at Gallery 137 outside her Northampton, MA hometown. The singer/songwriter’s father, Peter Kitchell, is also a noted artist, who will display his  photo collages at the gallery alongside his daughter’s work.

“The lens is a way in which I strive to share the wonders I see every day in a life both fast and colorful,” Sonya Kitchell said in a statement. “As a musician, first and foremost, my vantage point is often one of stolen moments and backlit stillness.”

Sonya and Peter Kitchell’s work will be on display at Gallery 137 now through November 22. They will host an artists’ reception at the Gallery on November 7.

Kitchell’s latest album, This Storm, is available now. She will perform songs from the album with The Slip at Seattle’s Tractor Tavern this evening.

LCD Soundsystem mastermind James Murphy has confirmed to NME.Com that he plans to release classic-rock sounding record on his label, DFA. Murphy has gone to great lengths to bridge the worlds of electronic and rock music over the past few years. LCD Soundsystem frequently tours as a full band, often sharing the stage with indie-rock acts like Arcade Fire. For his new classic rock project, Murphy plans to play bass alongside LCD Soundsystem drummer Pat Maloney, as well as former Hockey Night members Paul Sprangers and Scott Well.

“There's this rock band [I'm in], arguing about what name they are," Murphy told NME.Com. "We've gone back and forth for months, there's no way to say [what the band name is]. Pat and I are the drummer and the bass player [respectively].”

In addition to his production work, Murphy hosts a regular disco party at New York’s Santo’s Party House. He is also currently in the midst of a European tour.

Kyle Hollingsworth to Celebrate Talking Heads with The Motet Print E-mail

String Cheese Incident’s Kyle Hollingsworth will spend Halloween with The Motet. The keyboardist will join The Motet on the road for a sprint through his home state of Colorado, including stops at Ft. Collins’ Hodi's Halfnote (10/29), Boulder’s Fox Theatre (10/30) and Denver’s Cervante's Masterpiece Ballroom (10/31-11/1).

Throughout the run, The Motet and Hollingsworth  are expected to perform the music of Talking Heads with the aid of Deep Banana Blackout guitarist Fuzz, vocalist/percussionist Jans Ingber, vocalists Liza Oxnard and Carrie Sangiovanni, keyboardist Joey Porter and bassist Paul McDaniel. In addition to his various solo bands, Fuzz recently played a series of shows with former Talking Heads members Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth as Tom Tom Club.

“Talking Heads’ Remain in Light was the first CD I ever bought,” Hollingsworth recently told Relix. “Either that or David Byrne/Brian Eno’s My Life in the Bush of Ghosts. I would get high and listen to that album forever and it was so great, but I think through the Talking Heads, and the percussion they were doing, I discovered Latin and salsa music, and from there it kind of bridged its way into world beat.”

The Motet Trio will offer a set of its own material at Cervante's Masterpiece Ballroom after the group’s Talking Heads celebration. In addition, The Motet will appear at Live Oak FL’s Bear Creek Festival on November 14.
