Page McConnell’s self-titled solo debut will be released April 17 on Legacy Recordings. McConnell has been working on his first solo album with co-producer Jared Slomoff for almost two years, both in Vermont and B rooklyn, NY. Similar to their recent spot at moe.down, the pair were joined in the studio by Jon Fishman and Spam Allstars guitarist Adam Zimmon. Mike Gordon and Trey Anastasio also make significant contributions. The disc was mixed in June by longtime Phish producer Bryce Goggin.
“I started working on it about two years ago, not with an end goal in mind, but for the joy of the process,” McConnell says. “As the project evolved, I realized the songs held together as a body of work with some recurring themes, especially that of new beginnings. The last few years have been a time of great personal and professional transition, and I think that’s reflected in the album.”
The album also features legendary drummer Jim Keltner (John Lennon, George Harrison, Ringo Starr, Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones). “He’s great—the real deal,” McConnell says. “As soon as he walked in the studio we started tracking. Of course I was aware of his musicianship from the studio work he’s done, but what I realized playing with him was just how far he could stretch things out. He was inspired, and inspiring to me.”
Page McConnell will include “Beauty of a Broken Heart,” “Heavy Rotation,” “Maid Marian,” “Close To Home,” “Runaway Bride,” “Back in the Basement,” “Rules I Don’t Know,” “The Complex Wind” and “Everyone But Me.” Please visit McConnell’s new homepage for more information.

Pearl Jam has confirmed a 13 date-European tour slated for this June. The group, which closed out its 2006 touring season with a opening spot for U2 in Hawaii, will perform seven headlining festival dates and six solo shows throughout Europe. The 13-date tour kicks off on June 8 at Lisbon, Portugal’s Passeio Maritimo Alges and includ es dates in Spain, Germany, Poland, Italy, Austria, England, Denmark, Holland and Belgium. According to the band Pearl Jam has no other shows scheduled for 2007.
“Our shows in Europe last fall were incredible and gave us the itch to return as quickly as possible to some of our favorite places, as well as visit some cities we haven’t been to in awhile,” says Pearl Jam manager, Kelly Curtis. “Historically, there have been five years or so between our visits to Europe, so it’s a treat to go back again so soon.”
The group’s European tour will conflict with the 2007 edition of Bonnaroo, squashing rumors that the group would headline the festival this summer. Bonnaroo is scheduled to take place from June 14-17 in Manchester, TN.

The Green Apple Music & Arts Festival will return for a second year this April. The three-day event will take place from April 20-22, boasting 150 concerts at over 80 venues throughout New York, Chicago and San Francisco. Produced by Relix Magazine, Pete Shapiro, and Jambands.com, the multi-day event will kick off in New York April 20 with two days of free music, entertainment and environmental activities at Earth Fair outside Grand Central Terminal. On Earth Day, Sunday, April 22, the Green Apple Music & Arts Festival will host a large-scale free, day-time event simultaneously in New York’s Central Park, Chicago’s Lincoln Park, and San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park. Building on last year’s New York festivities, an eclectic mix of bands will perform throughout New York, Chicago, and San Francisco’s maze of venues from April 20-22, including such lauded halls as the Blue Note, Schuba’s, and the Fillmore. The festival will also include the Green Apple Kids Concerts, a series of children's and family shows held throughout the weekend in each city. "The core idea of the Green Apple Festival is to raise awareness of Earth Day," says Pete Shapiro, Green Apple’s Executive Producer. "By including a diverse roster of artists from the US and beyond, we hope to promote this very important day and, in turn, help to create a healthy, sustainable environment not just for our audiences here, but for people around the world. There should be a global Earth Day event every year."
The first annual Green Apple Music Festival featured an eclectic mix of musicians, including Richie Havens, Mickey Hart, Soulive, Antibalas, Blues Traveler, Scissor Sisters, Grace Potter, Dresden Dolls, Ghostface, Bela Fleck, The New York Philharmonic, Baaba Maal, Little Feat, Toots & The Maytals, Angelique Kidjo, and Umphrey’s McGee, among others. A full lineup will be announced in the coming weeks.

In the somewhat unexpected news category, Dave Matthews Band saxophonist LeRoi Moore appears on Nas’ new record, Hip Hop is Dead. The founding member of Dave Matthews Band plays on the new Nas song "Hold Down the Block.” Moore connected with the hip-hop star through Mark Batson, who produced both Hip Hop is Dead and Dave Matthews Band’s 2005 album Stand Up. Batson is currently working with Dave Matthews Band on their seventh proper studio album.
As expected Dave Matthews Band will launch another major tour next summer. Similar to last year the group is asking fans to vote for five possible support acts. Last year’s campaign helped bands like Umphrey’s McGee and ALO score the coveted support spot. Dave Matthews will launch a solo European tour February 23.
