After several months of speculation, Ween has released some new information concerning its long awaited studio album. The group has recently finished a batch of new songs and tapped producer Andrew Weiss for its forthcoming sessions. In addition, the group is currently in discussions with a number of labels, though Ween plans to continue writing for the foreseeable future. On Philadelphia’s WXPN, Dean and Gene Ween previewed one of their newest songs, “D.C. Won't Do You No Good,” as part of longtime friend Chris Harford’s on-air set with his Band of changes. “As far as gigs go, we've been getting offers (way in advance) for next year's festivals, but we wanna be a little conservative about how much we play before the new album is out,” Dean Ween says. “We'll wanna do a proper world tour when the record comes out next year. In the meantime, keep an eye out for those impromptu local shows that we inevitably do when we're trying out new material live.”

Son Volt will support the release of its next album, The Search, with a national tour. After emphasizing his solo career, band leader Jay Farrar began using the Son Volt name in earnest again last year. The Search, which will hit stores on March 6, boasts an expanded instrumentation, which includes multiple keyboards, brass instruments and various guitar loops. Son Volt’s "World Waits For You," from its previous album Okemah and the Melody of Riot, was also recently featured on Grey's Anatomy. Last night Farrar closed out his current tour with Gob Iron last night at Boulder, CO’s Fox Theatre. He will appear next with Gob Iron January 19 at Hoboken, NJ’s Maxwell’s.

Ryan Adams will close out his three-night residency at New York's Town Hall tonight. Promising no repeats throughout his hometown run, the guitarist has drawn from each of his albums, as well as his numerous unreleased recording sessions. Adams has also shown off his knowledge of the Grateful Dead canon, polished since he began collaborating with Phil Lesh, by offering “Wharf Rat” Monday and “Stella Blue” Tuesday. The latter number appears on Willie Nelson’s new album, Songbird, which Adams produced. Each night a surprise guest has also opened the guitarist’s show: Sean Lennon (Monday) and The Little Willies featuring Norah Jones (Tuesday). Jones returned during Adams set for a version of “Dear John,” which appears on 2005’s Jacksonville City Nights.
