The third annual Virgin Mobile Festival has confirmed its initial artist lineup. The gathering, which bills itself as “the largest music and arts festival on the East Coast,” is scheduled to take place at Baltimore, MD’s Pimlico Race Course from August 9-10. The gathering will feature an eclectic mix of headliners, including Foo Fighters, Nine Inch Nails, Stone Temple Pilots, and Jack Johnson, the latter of whom will also headline Coachella, Bonnaroo, All Points West and Outside Lands this summer. Stone Temple Pilots are preparing to tour for the first time in seven years this summer. The complete Virgin Mobile Festival line-up will be confirmed in the coming weeks.

After headlining eco-friendly festivals like Bonnaroo, Coachella, All Points West and Outside Lands, Jack Johnson has decided to shift his focus from music to politics. Johnson will enter the political-arena as an independent candidate, for what promises to be the “greenest campaign of all time.” The Hawaiian-based singer/songwriter, who will fly between campaign stops  on his eco-friendly plane Brushfire 12, promises to offset his campaign carbon footprint by donating over $3,000 in wind credits between now and November. He also promises to play every festival “under the sun, until the sun stops melting the polar icecaps.” According to reports, Johnson is strongly considering choosing either Ben Harper or Michael Franti as his running mate.

Ryan Adams has played with an eclectic mix of musicians over the years, ranging from Phil Lesh to Gillian Welch. But, the often erratic musician’s next outing will throw him into an entirely different musical realm: Brit-pop. Adams and his band the Cardinals will play a few shows with Oasis this summer, beginning with an appearance at Seattle's WaMu Theater on August 26. The gig marks Oasis’ first live show in over two years. Adams will also open for Oasis at Vancouver, BC’s GM Place (8/27), Edmonton, AB’s Rexall Place (8/29) and Calgary, AB’a Pengrowth Saddledome (8/30). While Adams and Oasis may feel a world apart on paper, Adams has covered Oasis’ “Wonderwall” on several occasions. As previously reported, Adams will also appear at Telluride, CO’s Telluride Town Park on June 19.

American Babies to Re-Release Debut Album Print E-mail

American Babies will re-release its debut album on April 1 via SCI Fidelity. The group, which features Brothers Past's Tom Hamilton, his brother Jim Hamilton, The Duo's Joe Russo and RANA's Scott Metzger, originally released their self-titled debut in 2007. Since then the group has performed at festivals like Wicker Park, Bonnaroo, Langerado, SXSW and CMJ and built a sturdy fanbase independent of the four musicians' other bands.  In addition to concert staples like “Invite Your Friends,” “American Babies,” “Brooklyn Bridge” and “Swimming at Night,” American Babies also features former Fat Mama vibes-wiz Kevin Kendrick and the Disco Biscuits’ Aron Magner. The disc’s independent printing topped several members of the Relix staff’s “best of” lists at the close of 2007.

"I don't want to get too deep on it," Hamilton says. "I write songs and I play the guitar. It is what I do and it is who I am."

The quartet will tour behind American Babies this spring and summer, including an April 30 support spot for Sheryl Crow at West Palm Beach, FL’s Sunfest and an appearance at Wakarusa.
