The Allman Brothers Band has postponed its annual residency at New York’s Beacon Theatre until 2009. After canceling their run of May performances while Gregg Allman recovers from treatment for Hepatitis C, the group originally hoped to play the Beacon this fall. Instead, the group will return to the Beacon in early 2009 for a series of shows that will commemorate the group’s 40th Anniversary.

“New York’s a second home to us,” Allman said in the statement. “We love playing there and are as disappointed as anybody not to be able to get there this time.”

The Allman Brothers Band still plans to hit the road this August with special guests Bob Weir & RatDog. As of press time, the group has confirmed appearances in Wantagh, NY (8/13), Holmdel, NJ (8/15), Mansfield, MA (8/16), Canandaigua, NY (8/22) and Camden, NJ (8/23). Dates for shows in upstate New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Illinois and Colorado are expected to be confirmed soon.

Jane's Addiction to Reunite Print E-mail

Jane's Addiction's classic lineup will reunite for a one-night only performance at the first-ever U.S. NME Awards. In addition to singer Perry Farrell, guitarist Dave Navarro and drummer Stephen Perkins, this incarnation of Jane's Addiction will include founding bassist Eric Avery, who has not performed with the group since 1991. Since then, Farrell, Navarro and Perkins have headlined a handful of reunion tours with guest bassists such as Red Hot Chili Peppers' Flea, Porno for Pyros' Martyn LeNoble and session musician Chris Chaney.

The reunited quartet will receive the Godlike Genius Award at the ceremony, which will be held at Los Angles' El Rey Theatre on April 23. Jane's Addiction joins the likes of The Clash, New Order, Primal Scream and Manic Street Preachers, who are among the acts to have picked up the Godlike Genius prize at the UK awards.

"I've chosen to reject the prospects of reuniting in the past for personal and philosophical reasons. I have always considered reunions to be a way to make a quick buck, and it sells short my own experience of it the first time around," Avery said in a statement."The reason I started to even consider this is because it's honoring the past instead of trying to recreate it."

According to event organizers NME, Jane's Addiction will be honored for their ability to "introduce American alternative music to the mainstream, founding the touring Lollapalooza Festival and giving what frontman Perry Farrell refers to as the 'alternative nation' a real cultural focus and voice." Jane's Addiction most recently released Strays in 2003. Farrell is no stranger to award ceremonies, having performed at the 2004 Jammys with String Cheese Incident.

Strong rumors remain that Jane's Addiction is reuniting for a summer tour.

Widespread Panic will now close out the 7th annual Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival on Sunday, June 15. Perhaps the festival's longest standing veteran, Widespread Panic has performed on Bonnaroo's main stage in 2002, 2003, 2005 and 2007. While Widespread Panic was on hiatus, keyboardist JoJo Hermann and drummer Todd Nance both performed at the festival in 2004. The group was brought on as one of the festival's marquee jam acts after the Allman Brother Band officially canceled its performance earlier this week. The group's powerful, two-set Bonnaroo performances are known both for their energy and varied special guests. Over the years the group has welcomed Steve Winwood, Herbie Hancock, Bob Weir, Warren Haynes, Robert Randolph, Luther and Cody Dickinson, Galactic's Stanton Moore, the Dirty Dozen Brass Band and Dottie Peoples and the People's Choice Choir to the stage while performing at Bonnaroo.

In addition, Jack Johnson has chosen to join his friends Pearl Jam on the main stage Saturday, June 14, stepping into the slot vacated by the Allman Brothers. Johnson will perform an extended set beginning at sunset, shortly before Pearl Jam close out the day's main stage festivities. Johnson is close friends with the Pearl Jam camp and jammed with Eddie Vedder at his Kokua Festival in April, 2007. Many fans also speculate that Johnson will join Pearl Jam onstage during their headlining set.

Bonnaroo has also confirmed a handful of new acts, including Les Claypool, who performed at Bonnaroo each year from 2002-2006. Other new additions include Jurassic 5's Chali 2na, Superdrag, What Made Milwaukee Famous, Adele, Grand Ole Party and The Postelles.

Ben Harper first bonded with the members of Pearl Jam when the grunge-legends took him out on the road for a European tour back in the 1990s. Since then Harper has played with the members of Pearl Jam numerous times, most recently on Sunday when he joined Eddie Vedder for a few songs at Los Angeles' Wiltern Theatre. Partway through Vedder’s solo set, Harper took the stage to duet with the Pearl Jam singer on "No More," a track the pair recorded for the politically-charged Body of War soundtrack. In addition, former Pearl Jam/Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Jack Iron, who introduced Vedder to his future bandmates after their previous band Mother Love Bone dissolved, appeared on Pearl Jam’s hit cover of "Last Kiss" and jammed with both Vetter and Harper on “All Along the Watchtower." Harper and Vedder performed both “No Moore” and “Rocking in the Free World” together at Lollapalooza last August Since leaving the alt-rock world, Irons has focused primarily on more improvisational music.

Vedder will appear at San Diego, CA’s Spreckels Theatre tonight and tomorrow.
