Kyle Hollingsworth to Celebrate Talking Heads with The Motet Print E-mail

String Cheese Incident’s Kyle Hollingsworth will spend Halloween with The Motet. The keyboardist will join The Motet on the road for a sprint through his home state of Colorado, including stops at Ft. Collins’ Hodi's Halfnote (10/29), Boulder’s Fox Theatre (10/30) and Denver’s Cervante's Masterpiece Ballroom (10/31-11/1).

Throughout the run, The Motet and Hollingsworth  are expected to perform the music of Talking Heads with the aid of Deep Banana Blackout guitarist Fuzz, vocalist/percussionist Jans Ingber, vocalists Liza Oxnard and Carrie Sangiovanni, keyboardist Joey Porter and bassist Paul McDaniel. In addition to his various solo bands, Fuzz recently played a series of shows with former Talking Heads members Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth as Tom Tom Club.

“Talking Heads’ Remain in Light was the first CD I ever bought,” Hollingsworth recently told Relix. “Either that or David Byrne/Brian Eno’s My Life in the Bush of Ghosts. I would get high and listen to that album forever and it was so great, but I think through the Talking Heads, and the percussion they were doing, I discovered Latin and salsa music, and from there it kind of bridged its way into world beat.”

The Motet Trio will offer a set of its own material at Cervante's Masterpiece Ballroom after the group’s Talking Heads celebration. In addition, The Motet will appear at Live Oak FL’s Bear Creek Festival on November 14.

Fan Petition Urges Phish Hampton Simulcast Print E-mail

A group of fans have put together a petition urging Phish and Red Light Management to simulcast the group’s upcoming run of shows at Hampton, VA’s Hampton Coliseum. The petition reads, “This morning, 10/18/08, thousands of Phish phans got shut out of tickets by ticketmaster. Please sign a deal to simulcast at theaters and/or other arenas, your March 6th comeback performance or the whole Hampton run. There are a lot of folks that have supported you guys for many years and should be a part of this landmark show. Just because they couldn't enter a security check faster than others shouldn't mean that they can't enjoy these shows. I believe this would not only benefit the phans but would also help the city of Hampton by not having thousands of ticketless phans descending upon Hampton that weekend. We all want to share in the groove, so please make this happen!”

Phish is expected to announce additional tour dates before its Hampton run. Please click here to sign the online petition.

M. Ward will release Hold Time on February 17 via Merge Records. The release is the indie-centric singer/songwriter’s first proper solo album since his 2007 breakout Post-Jam. After wrapping up a tour in support of that record, Ward formed the new buzz group She & Him with actress Zooey Deschanel. The pair released their first studio album, the appropriately titled Volume One, earlier this year.

Hold Time is slated to feature guest appearances by Deschanel, Jason Lytle, Lucinda Williams and DeVotchka’s Tom Hagerman. In addition, Ward is working on a studio album with Conor Oberst and My Morning Jacket’s Jim James. The trio occasionally tours together under the name The Monsters of Folk, while Ward made a surprise appearance with My Morning Jacket at Coachella last April. She & Him will appear next at Los Angeles' The Wiltern.

Due to the injuries sustained by Jim James, when he fell off the stage during a performance at the University of Iowa on October 7, My Morning Jacket has cancelled its upcoming European tour dates. In a statement on the group's website the band explains, "Our hope was to merely postpone the tour, but as our scheduling does not allow that to happen in the immediate future, we feel it is best to cancel this tour in hopes of re-scheduling at some point. We would also like to say 'thank you' to all the fans who have reached out to Jim with their well-wishes as we all hope for his speedy and full recovery." This will leave James with some time to recover since the group's next confirmed show is not until December 27 at the Chicago Theater (MMJ also will appear at the venue on the 28th, as these dates were rescheduled from October 9 and 10). On New Year's Eve the group will perform at Madison Square Garden.
