The Fader Garcia T-shirt and Poster Print E-mail
Wednesday, 01 August 2007
garciat-shirt

As the self-proclaimed “authority on what’s next,” it was somewhat surprising seeing Jerry Garcia on the cover of the May/June issue of Fader magazine. Here at Relix, always full of utmost dead-ication, we picked it up to take a look. The article is largely reminiscent, full of intimate personal stories from the late Garcia’s nearest and dearest—Carolyn “Mountain Girl” Adams Garcia, Bob Weir, Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann and Richard Loren to name a few. Fader also makes a point to stress Garcia’s (and the Dead’s) continual relevance, now as much as ever, from an influential standpoint to just plain obsession for fans and musicians alike.

garciaposterTo celebrate its release—this issue is the magazine’s annual Icons/Photography issue—Fader created a limited edition Jerry Garcia T-shirt and poster. The shirt, a plain white T, is 100% cotton. If there were to be an image that could best attempt to capture Garcia, the artwork by Si Scott would be it. “Garcia” is perfectly printed across the chest in an intricate, swirly, drippy, dream-like font.  The poster is diagram-like; creating a familial connection between the Grateful Dead, bands that influenced them, and those the Dead continue to influence today. Both are 25$. Check them out at www.Thefader.com.

Solio Universal Hybrid Charger Print E-mail
Wednesday, 01 August 2007
Camping at a festival and your thumb is sore from all the text-messaging, trying to meet up with friends. Sun is shining, music playing—but your cell phone battery is running out of juice. No outlets in the middle of a field in Tennessee. Luckily, Solio has come out with a solar-powered battery charger. Takes a few hours of sunlight to juice the capacitor up, and then you’ll be able to charge your cellphone or iPod for two full cycles. It folds up relatively small—tiny enough to throw in your backpack, and comes with adapters for just about all cell phone plugs. Clever design and good power storage/output. Just wish it came with an adapter to plug in any AC/outlet appliance.

We’re not quite sure we get the whole “Breathe/Comfort” branding thing but the “instant warmth gentle body scrub” line of Bath & Body Works’ bath scrubs sure is scrumptious. Its subtle vanilla milk scent makes you want to curl up in a bathrobe with a good book, while the gentle scrubbing beads wake your skin up while instantly making you feel warm all over.
