This is relativity/time datilation in action. When a particle has a velocity close to the speed of light, then it will appear to have a longer lifetime before it decays.Within its own reference frame, it still lasts only 15 minutes, but to the outside universe millions of years have passed. The same effect is seen on a small scale within particleaccelerators every day. Particles that should decay veryquickly are seen to have much longer lifetimes because oftheir high velocity. It is also seen when cosmic rays hit the Earth’s atmosphereand react to produce showers of other particles, including manythat should decay before they have time to hit the ground. Yetthey do, because of the ultra-high velocities involved.
